The Basic Lutong Workshop 2025, organized by Bungan Creative, was successfully held from 11 to 12 October 2025. The workshop featured Pang Selong, a lutong player from Baram, who served as the instructor and shared her knowledge and techniques in playing this traditional musical instrument with the participants.
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Awang Ikman bin Awang Sepian, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS). In his address, Mr. Awang Ikman emphasized that the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) remains committed to continuing the distribution of MySeni grants as a form of sustained support for artists and cultural practitioners across Sarawak.
He further stated that initiatives play a vital role in preserving and conserving Sarawak’s arts and culture, ensuring that these invaluable elements of heritage continue to be appreciated, developed, and passed down to future generations.
Mr. Awang Ikman also expressed his hope that such programmes will continue to be held as part of broader efforts to safeguard the state’s artistic legacy. He noted that the Basic Lutong Workshop 2025 not only serves as a platform for cultural learning but also represents a meaningful step towards sustaining the legacy of Sarawak’s traditional music and strengthening public appreciation for indigenous art forms within the community.
